About the Fort
Come step back in time at historic Old Fort Madison, Iowa, the Midwest's oldest American military garrison on the upper Mississippi River.  Discover what life was like at a United States fur trading post on the rugged frontier of the Missouri Territory. Learn the exciting heritage of Iowa before it was a state and of its involvement in the War of 1812.  This historic installation was home to Captain Horatio Stark's Company of the First Regiment, United States Infantry, from 1808 to 1813.

Attractions
Wander through the authentically reconstructed buildings to experience a day in the life of the men, women, and children who inhabited this factory post. Be greeted by authentically garbed historic interpreters performing the duties that were necessary to sustain life at an isolated fort.  Daily duties can include performing military drills and musket firing. 

Annual Special Events
Listed below are the annual special events that happen at Old Fort Madison.  Each event gives visitors a unique understanding of what life was like for the frontier soldiers who were deployed to Old Fort Madison from 1808 to 1813.

Foundation Grant

Old Fort Madison Site Manager Dr. Eugene Watkins applied for and received a MidWestOne Bank Foundation grant to help with much needed repairs at the Old Fort.  The grant was for $15,000 and will be payable over a three (3) year period ($5,000 per year).  MidWestOne Bank is committed to being an integral part of the communities they are located in.  The MidWestOne Foundation was created to provide financial support for their communities.  The Foundation provides support for the arts, education, wellness, recreation, civic services, any endeavors that serve the cultural well-being and benefit the greater good of their communities.  The Foundation meets quarterly to review applications.  Thank You MidWestOne Bank Foundation and Congratulations Dr. Watkins!
