About Us

The Fort Madison Police Department (FMPD) employs 19 full-time officers, 2 administrative support staff, and four volunteer police reserves officers. The department has officers involved with the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and partners with the Fort Madison Community School District by providing a School Resource Officer (SRO). The department is also involved with the Neighborhood Watch and Crime Stoppers programs. We maintain a close working relationship with the Lee County Sheriff's Department, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa State Penitentiary, located in Fort Madison. The Fort Madison Police Department's goal is the time-tested motto "To Protect and Serve". The officers, support staff and police reserves realize that our citizens deserve and expect a high degree of care and competency in all matters of police services.
