Minutes
The Historic Preservation Commission meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 5:30pm in Council Chambers, as needed. The Commission shall meet at least three (3) times a year. The Historic Preservation Commission consists of seven (7) resident members of the City. Members are appointed for three (3) year terms.
Some powers and duties of the Commission are:
- Ability to conduct inventory studies to identify and designate potential historic districts and sites;
- May recommend designation of a district or site to the National Register of Historic Places;
- May recommend designation of historic sites and districts to the City Council;
- Can prepare a Comprehensive Preservation Plan for the City;
- Provide educational and interpretive programs on historic properties in Fort Madison.
