The City of Fort Madison and the University of Iowa's Institute of Public Affairs are pleased to announce a new training program for all City of Fort Madison board and commission members. The program will be held on Thursday, November 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at a site to be determined once we know how many will be in attendance. This two-hour program will present the basic laws and concepts that apply to local government boards and commissions. Topics include: Legal Requirements: Open Meetings Law; Public Records Law; Gift Law; Conflicts-of-Interest; Purchasing and Contracts; Other Important Laws. Doing What Is Right: Board Duties and Responsibilities; Policy Development and Analysis; Policy and Program Evaluation and Oversight. Enhancing Effectiveness: Strategies for Enhancing Board/Commission Effectiveness; New Member Orientation; Teamwork; Decision-Making; Questions to Ask as Board Commission Members.
