To apply, candidates will be required complete a written Test (POST) and a physical agility test in Fort Madison to attain eligibility. Testing standards which can be found on the ILEA website under certification questions. Candidates must also have a clean background history and valid drivers license. Non-certified applicants will have to attend the four-month Iowa Law Enforcement Academy which is paid for by the department.
The Fort Madison Police Department at full capacity is a 20 personnel department. Patrol Officers work 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off. Officers get paid double time and a half for holidays worked and straight 8 hours for holidays not worked. The Fort Madison Police Department is an equal opportunity employer.
