[ARCHIVED] Police Officer Applications/Testing

The City of Fort Madison, Iowa, will participate in examinations for the Position of Police Officer on _February 20, 2021.  Applicants wishing to test for the position of Police Officer on the Fort Madison Police Department must complete an application packet provided by the Fort Madison Police Department no later than February 5, 2021.

 

Applicants wishing to test for the position of Police Officer must be at least 20 years of age.  Applicants must be of good moral character, must possess a valid high school diploma or GED and able to pass a background check, written and physical exams and drug screen.  These are the minimum qualifications to test for the position of Police Officer.

 

Application packets are available at the Fort Madison Police Department at the police department lobby (open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM), by email at jgray@fortmadisonpd.com or by regular mail to:  Fort Madison Police Department, 811 Avenue E, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.

 

The examination for the position of Police Officer on the Fort Madison Police Department will consist of both written (POST) and physical agility tests

 

The fifteen applicants receiving the highest total passing scores will be placed on a list and certified to the City Council of the City of Fort Madison.  All newly created or other vacancies for the position of Police Officer, which shall occur before the next examination, shall be filled from this list.  In the event of a tie score for the fifteenth position on the certified list, all applicants receiving fifteenth place scores shall be placed on the list in alphabetical order.  In the event less than fifteen applicants successfully complete the examination, the list to be certified shall contain only the names of those who have passed the examination.  An individual’s test score will be made available to the applicant by the Civil Service Commission following the grading of both the written and physical agility exams.  The Civil Service Commission will also supply the Fort Madison Police Chief with a list containing each applicant’s test score.

 

Applicants wishing to test for the position of Police Officer on the Fort Madison Police Department shall not be discriminated against on the basis of height, weight, sex or race in determining the physical or mental ability of the applicant.

 

A copy of this notice shall be posted at City Hall.

 

Final certification of the list of 15 finalists will be taken in open session of the Fort Madison Civil Service Commission and the names contained on this list will be made available to the general public and the media upon request.
