Report on the challenges of the logisitcs of the approach roadway to the bridge across the Mississippi River between Fort Madison and Niota that necessitated an embargo on truck traffic in 2008. The embargo limits trucks to less than 60,000 lbs. and 60 feet in length, impeding freight movement by truck. The Fort Madison Bridge structure consists of a riveted double-track, double-deck swing through truss that accommodates BNSF Railway operations on the lower railroad deck.
