The Civil Service Commission of the City of Fort Madison, Iowa, will be conducting examinations for a Fire Fighter Candidate List on May 14, 2022. The minimum qualifications to test are:
- At least 18 years of age and may be no older than 64
- Of good moral character
- Be able to read and write the English language
- May not be a liquor or drug addict
- Valid high school diploma or GED
The deadline for applications is 4:30 P.M. on Friday, April 1, 2022.
The Fort Madison Civil Commission Examination consists of both written and physical agility tests. The tests will be scored using a point system. Fifty percent (50%) of the total points possible will be allotted to the written portion while the remaining fifty percent (50%) of the total points possible will be allotted to the physical agility portion of the examination.
The written portion of the examination will start promptly at 8:00 A.M. on the date contained in the public notice requesting applications. The physical agility portion of the examination will start at 11:00 A.M. on the same date. In the event of inclement weather on the testing date, the Fort Madison Civil Service Commission reserves the right to postpone the physical agility portion of the examination to another date.
Any applicant failing the written or any portion of the physical agility test will be disqualified from consideration for the position.
Applicants wishing to test for the position of Fire Fighter on the Fort Madison Fire Department shall not be discriminated against on the basis of height, weight, sex or race in determining the physical or mental ability of the applicant.
