[ARCHIVED] Traffic Notice To Fort Madison Residents

On July 27, Fort Madison residents should expect approximately 20,000 bicycle riders and several
thousand support vehicles in addition to our city’s regular traffic flow. Riders and support vehicles will begin to arrive as early as 7AM. The additional congestion is expected to wane around 5PM. Safety for all residents, visitors, and cyclists is the ultimate goal for our service workers. In effort to limit the areas where motor vehicles and bicycles intersect, support vehicles will travel to Fort Madison on Highway 2 and enter the west limits of our city. These crews will be directed to various short-term parking areas and “on street” parking. The Fort Madison Police Department is asking all residents to refrain from parking on any public street in the areas between Avenue E and Avenue H from 18th Street to 2nd Street. This will greatly assist the police officers in keeping the riders safe as they proceed through our city to the Mississippi River and in directing the support vehicle traffic to their designated parking areas when they arrive and depart.

The only vehicular traffic that will be allowed in Riverview Park between 6AM and 6PM on July 27, 2013, will be emergency vehicles, official RAGBRAI vehicles, vendors, RAGBRAI committee members and band members. No vehicles and/or boats will be allowed to enter or leave Riverview Park. Boaters wishing to enter the water may use Willow Patch Access Ramp. For boats docked at the Marina, you may park elsewhere and walk to the dock.
