[ARCHIVED] Nomination Petitions and Candidate Affidavits Are Available

Nomination Petitions and Candidate Affidavits are available at the Fort Madison City Clerk’s Office, 811 Avenue E, Fort Madison.

Offices open for the November 5, 2013 election are:

Mayor 2 Year term
2nd Ward Councilperson 4 Year Term
4th Ward Councilperson 4 Year Term
Councilperson At-Large 4 Year term

The earliest date to file a Nomination Petition and Candidate Affidavit will be Monday, August 26, 2013. The last day to file papers will Thursday, September 19, 2013. The City Clerk’s office will be open until 5:00 P.M. in order to accept petitions.

Persons eligible to register to vote are eligible to be candidates for these offices.

A candidate must be 18 years of age when his or her Nomination Petition is filed. Candidates must live within the City of Fort Madison. Persons signing the petition must live in the City of Fort Madison.

To be on the Ballot, a Mayoral candidate or candidate for Ward 2 or Ward 4 must have a minimum of 10 signatures on the Nomination Petition. A Councilperson At-Large must have a minimum of 18 signatures. It is recommended that Candidates obtain more than the required number of signatures on their Petitions. This will guard against possible unacceptable signatures causing the Petitions to be invalid.
