The Fort Madison City Park at Shopton recently received the donation of four Goalsetter in ground basketball hoops to replace the original hoops. The donation and installation was made possible by Paul and Jody Schulte of Fort Madison.

Paul Schulte, a 1994 graduate of Fort Madison High School, played basketball in high school at Ft. Madison High School and went on to compete at St Cloud State and Luther College. Schulte states, “Growing up, I had good memories of playing pick-up games at Shopton Park, and I felt strongly that it was due time to replace the original hoops with the new basketball hoops for future generations to enjoy.”

John Luna, Fort Madison Parks and Recreation Department Management Analyst said, “We would like to thank Paul and Jody Schulte for their wonderful gift of four brand new basketball poles for Shopton Park. Paul and Jody’s thoughtfulness and generosity, in a gift of this magnitude is very much appreciated, not only by the Parks Department, but by all who play basketball at Shopton Park.”

This was not the first hoop donation for the Schulte’s, as last year Paul and Jody donated and installed two new basketball hoops at Old Settler’s Park. According to the Old Settler’s parks board the hoops are heavily utilized and a nice welcome addition for the children.

The Schulte’s feel strongly about continuing to provide avenues for today’s youth to enjoy the parks in Fort Madison. “We hope that everyone will enjoy the replaced basketball hoops and form their own memories out on the court,” notes Schulte. Shopton Park is located at 29th Street and Avenue O.
