[ARCHIVED] George Wright Memorial Track Meet (Hershey Relays)

Finish Line.jpg

DID YOU KNOW? The Hershey program is all about the kids (ages 9-14 as of December 31, 2014). The Hershey program provides a free recreational program that requires no special equipment, no special skills. This is a great event to provide to kids in your community a chance to get out, get active, compete in a track meet and have fun. A few lucky kids from Iowa will receive the opportunity to travel to Hershey (all expenses paid) and compete in the North American Finals. Last year Iowa hosted 50 local meets and over 800 boys and girls competed at our state meet in June.

The 43rd annual Fort Madison Lions Club, Parks and Recreation, Hershey’s Track Meet will be run at Richmond Stadium, Fort Madison High School, on Wednesday, May 7. Registration is at 4:30 pm with the first event scheduled to start at 5:00 pm. The meet has been renamed the George Wright Memorial Track Meet in memory of George Wright who initiated the track meet in 1971 and had been emcee and coordinator for the track meet since the meet began. George passed away in May of 2008 and the Fort Madison Lions Club took action to rename the meet in his memory.

The meet is open to all boys and girls ages 9 to 14 (age determined as of December 31, 2014). Registration forms are available at local schools. Completed registration forms may be returned to: Fort Madison Parks and Recreation Department, 811 Avenue E, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627 by Friday, April 25, 2014 or bring the completed registration form to the Senior High School Track on the day of the meet.

For further information or to request a registration form contact John Luna at the Fort Madison Parks and Recreation Department 372-7700 x 202.
