The City of Fort Madison will pick up discarded Christmas trees beginning with Route A (east end) on January 7 and then Route B (west end) on January 14.
The dividing line for Routes A and B run from the river north on 27th Street to Avenue G, east along Avenue G to 16th Street, then north along 16th Street to the City Limits.
DISCARDED TREES MUST BE PLACED WHERE YARD WASTE WOULD NORMALLY BE COLLECTED, IN MOST CASES IN THE ALLEY NEAR GARBAGE COLLECTION SITES. TREES WILL NOT BE COLLECTED CURBSIDE.
The City will not pick up trees for the following reasons:
Flocked trees
Tree stands, wire, anchors and plastic or metal of any kind used to support the tree must be removed.
Lights, ornaments, ornament hangers, tinsel or non-biodegradable garland must be removed
All other material must be removed.
Disposal of trees that are not put out for pick up in time for collection or are uncollectible for whatever reason will be considered the responsibility of the purchaser of the tree and not the City.
